Matty's On The Five is our weekly wrap focusing on five of the biggest moments in Pacific sport, as determined by Matt Manukuo.

Panthers unbelievable comeback win delivers third consecutive championship to Penrith

Samoa’s superstar center Stephen Crichton scored in the 68th minute, and inspired a comeback from the Panthers, to win their third consecutive NRL premiership 26 - 24.

An intense first half saw the Broncos make several errors and worries began to set in that the pressure of the occasion might have been too much for the Broncos. But the Brisbane-based team were able to regain their composure against a Panthers onslaught, keeping the champions to 8 points to 6 by the half.

The Broncos came out firing in the second half, with rookie half of the year Ezra Mam scoring a hat-trick in just 10 minutes - stunning onlookers - as Brisbane jumped to 24 - 8 lead with 15 minutes to go.

However a clinical 40/20 from Nathan Cleary put the Panthers in perfect field position for a try and an insane support line from Moses Leota opened up the game for Penrith. Then a try from Stephen Chrichton restored hopes for Penrith fans as they closed within 4 points late in the second half.

Following a gargantuan momentum shift towards Penrith, their star halfback Nathan Cleary beat two defenders and crossed over the line breaking the hearts of Broncos fans.

Black Ferns clinical against Wallaroos

Cross-code star Katelyn Vahaakolo was clinical for the Black Ferns win against the Wallaroos, crossing over for two tries in their 43 - 3 win in Hamilton.

The world champion Black Ferns looked all class in the first half, picking up five tries against a shattered Australian defence. Powerful carries from Crystal Murray opened the scoring for the Black Ferns, and Patricia Maliepo ran a beautiful line on the right edge to also score.

The Black Ferns were unafraid to spread the ball and provided some exceptional set plays which helped them go up 31 points to nil at halftime.

A red card late into the second half for Australia exposed the defensive line for the Black Ferns to cross over for two more tries.

All Blacks make 96 point statement against Italy

Samoan/Tongan number 10 Richie Mo’unga showed his brilliance in the All Blacks' 96 - 17 win against Italy at the weekend, converting nine tries.

Prior to the game, some commentators suggested Italy could sneak an historic win, but those concerns were silenced when the All Blacks got up 49 - 3 by halftime.

The barnstorming physicality of the All Blacks' pack proved too much for Italy, thanks to the injection of Shannon Frizell and Dalton Papali’i into the starting side. While captain Ardie Savea steered the ship in the middle, with strong carries and defensive efforts, crossing over for a try.

The All Blacks have a quick turnaround this week as they challenge Uruguay in their last pool match on Friday morning.

Silver Ferns retain Taini Jamison trophy

The Silver Ferns edged out the English Roses 59 - 52 over the weekend.

Trailing 14-12 at the end of the first quarter, New Zealand rebounded in the second quarter to be up 27-24 at halftime.

England clawed back a goal in the third quarter to trail by two going into the final quarter, 39-41.

The hosts though were able to extend their lead in the final 15 minutes eventually running out 59-52 winners.

Jai Opetaia cleans up Jordan Thompson in UK

Samoan Australian Jai Opetaia has knocked out Jordan Thompson in the seventh round, retaining his IBF cruiserweight championship in London on Saturday (UK time).

Both fighters had never lost a fight, with Thompson going into the bout as favourite due to being a taller fighter with longer reach, along with winning 12 of his 17 fights by knock-out.

Opetaia showed his class from the opening round, controlling the ring and landing powerful shots on Thompson, before dropping the hometown hero in the third.

Opetaia continued to stalk Thompson for the remainder of the fight, knocking him out in the seventh round.
