Two charged after alleged assault at school as police search for others involved

The 20-year-olds will appear in the Manukau District Court after police linked them to an assault that left one student needing hospital assessment.

Two people have been charged following an assault at Alfriston College in South Auckland that sent the school into lockdown.

Police are now investigating who else was involved.

A 20-year-old man and woman were arrested after police located a vehicle of interest at a Randwick Park address on Thursday afternoon.

The man faces charges of aggravated burglary and assaults with intent to injure while the woman has been charged with burglary and assault.

Both were due to appear in the Manukau District Court on Friday.

Police say the incident started with an ongoing dispute between people who knew each other.

“At this stage we have established there has been an ongoing dispute involving people known to each other,” Detective Senior Sergeant Veronica McPherson, Counties Manukau CIB says.

"Three people allegedly entered the school grounds around lunchtime on Thursday and approached a student, who was then assaulted.

"Two other students tried to step in and were also allegedly assaulted and threatened. One student was taken to hospital for assessment."

The incident led to a police response at the school and the wider area as staff and students dealt with the disruption.

The school placed itself into a precautionary lockdown while police responded to the incident. Parents were told not to go to the school or call during the lockdown.

“You will not be attended to, and doing so may disrupt the management of the situation and could place you, our staff or our students at risk," the school had said.

Police stopped a vehicle in the nearby area on Thursday and spoke with its occupants in relation to the reported assaults.

Police say their investigation is not over. Enquiries are continuing into others who may have been involved.

“We are continuing to speak with witnesses about what has taken place. Violence is totally unacceptable and those involved will be held accountable.”

The arrests are the latest development after police responded to the school on Thursday afternoon and began searching for those linked to the incident.

The case will now move through the courts while police continue speaking with witnesses to establish exactly what happened and who else may have been involved.

Police have urged anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
