Up to 320mm of rain and strong winds are forecast, with further warnings possible as families urged to stay alert.








Parts of the upper North Island are bracing for severe weather, with Northland under a Red Warning for heavy rain from late Wednesday until 4am Friday.
MetService says 270 to 320mm of rain is expected in the area, with potential thunderstorms.
Large waves are possible along eastern Northland and the western and eastern coasts of the South Island.
Orange Heavy Rain Warnings and Yellow Watches are in place across other parts of the upper North Island.
MetService warns further upgrades to Red Warnings are possible for other northern regions.
An Orange Strong Wind Warning has been issued for Northland and Auckland, with gusts up to 120km/h.

Yellow Severe Weather Watches are also in place across parts of the North and South Islands.
