The OFC’s new professional club competition will see eight matches played in Honiara, with teams from across the Pacific set for the next stage of the inaugural tournament.

Football fans in Solomon Islands are set for a historic week as the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Pro League arrives in Honiara for round four of the inaugural regional competition.
For the first time, the country’s new professional club Solomon Kings FC will play in front of home supporters at the National Stadium, where eight matches will be staged between 14 and 19 March.
The Kings have been one of the biggest surprises of the league so far. After three rounds of matches across Oceania, the team has pushed into the top four and will now host two of the competition’s strongest clubs: Auckland FC and South Melbourne FC.
Big crowds are expected in Honiara, where football is the national sport and fans are known as some of the most passionate in the Pacific.
All eight matches in the round will be played at the 10,000-seat National Stadium, built for the 2023 Pacific Games. The venue has already hosted major regional events, including the OFC Women’s Champions League final in 2024 and the OFC Men’s Champions League final in 2025.
The OFC Pro League is the first professional club competition created for Oceania and brings together eight clubs from across the Pacific and Australia and New Zealand.

The inaugural season began earlier this year, with three rounds already completed in different parts of the region: Auckland, Port Moresby, and Melbourne.
Teams play matches across several host countries before the competition moves towards its final stages later in the season.
For Solomon Islands supporters, the Honiara round is a rare chance to see regional club football at a professional level on home soil.
Football has deep roots in the country. The Solomon Islands national futsal team has been one of the most successful in Oceania, winning the OFC Futsal Men’s Cup seven times and appearing at four FIFA Futsal World Cups.
The country has also enjoyed recent success in women’s football. In 2025, the Solomon Islands women’s national team won the OFC Women’s Nations Cup for the first time, defeating Papua New Guinea 3-2 after extra time in the final.
The men’s national team also produced one of the country’s most famous football moments in 2004, when they drew 2-2 with Australia at the OFC Nations Cup and reached the tournament final.
Organisers say the Honiara round will play an important role in the new league’s growth, bringing top clubs to Pacific supporters and giving local players a chance to compete at a higher level without leaving the region.

Teams are arriving in Honiara this week ahead of the matches. A pre-round media conference with team coaches will be held at the National Stadium on Friday.
Tickets for the games are available online at mselen.com and at M-Selen pop-up stores in East and West Honiara.
With the Solomon Kings pushing for a place in the later stages of the competition, local supporters will be hoping their home team can continue its strong run when the league arrives on their doorstep.
