The Kiwis defeated the Sāmoans 3-0 in the final of the OFC U16 Women's Championship in Apia.
Samoa’s dreams of making history on home soil were crushed by a dominant performance from New Zealand - thanks to three first-half goals from Lania Fili, captain Amelia Hitchcock, and Isla Robson.
The Kiwis came into the final match of the Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Under-16 Women's Championship in Apia on Thursday with some pressure after a tough semi-final against New Caledonia, which ended in a 4-2 victory.
Sāmoa had a convincing win against the Solomon Islands in their semi-final and had not allowed a single goal throughout the tournament.
But just minutes into the game, New Zealand spoiled Sāmoa's perfect defensive record.
Lania Fili opened the scoring in the sixth minute, followed by a penalty from Amelia Hitchcock in the 18th minute, and a header from Isla Robson in the 29th minute.
Fili found the back of the net with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area, leaving Sāmoan goalkeeper Margaret Fagasuisui Tui'i with no chance.
Samoa did not let this setback discourage them and fought back hard, with Cali Willis looking dangerous down the left side of the field.
New Zealand, eager to secure the win early, scored again. They quickly launched a counterattack, leading to a penalty after Mia Humphrey was fouled. Captain Hitchcock converted.
New Zealand’s third goal came from a well-executed corner kick from Ariana Vosper found Robson, who headed the ball into the net.

This left the Kiwis comfortably in control as the first half came to a close. In the second half, the visitors continued to dominate the game, putting pressure on Sāmoa's defence. They nearly scored again when Robson hit the crossbar with a shot.
Despite Sāmoa's efforts, including a near-goal from Brielle Tautua and multiple attempts from Aaliyah Johnson, the hosts were unable to overcome New Zealand's lead.
The Kiwis held on to secure their seventh consecutive championship win.
Despite the loss, Sāmoa will join New Zealand in next year's FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup in Morocco.
