Fiji teen makes diving history as Wahs face setbacks and Solomons get silver in OFC final

Fiji has its first-ever medal at a World Aquatics competition after 17-year-old Maori Pomeroy-Farrell claimed bronze at the World Junior Diving Championships, in Croatia.

He won the medal in the 3-metre springboard, marking a major breakthrough for Fiji diving on the world stage.

Wahs women face finals fight

The Warriors women have been dealt a major blow in their finals push after suffering a record 66-8 defeat to the Sydney Roosters in Australia on Sunday.

The defeat is the biggest in NRLW history and leaves the wāhine sixth on the ladder with three regular-season rounds remaining.

Kaiyah Atai, the stand-in captain and Cook Islands player says the side struggled to find their rhythm.

“It’s pretty tough losing by that much,” Atai told Sky Sport. “I definitely think we kept showing up for each other. When you give a team like the Roosters that much ball, they’re going to come out with a scoreline like that.

“I think we just didn’t get into the game cycle and it was shown they were just scoring set after set, but once we got into the game cycle and got our rhythm, we got good ball and we were able to score off that.”

Senior players Stacey Waaka and Mele Hufanga scored the Warriors’ only tries, with the team having just 35 per cent possession.

The Wahs completed 12 of their 20 sets, while the first-placed Roosters completed 28 of 37.

Head coach Ron Griffiths will need a huge response from his side when they host the St George Illawarra Dragons at Go Media Stadium on Saturday, August 29, with kick-off at 6.50pm NZT.

Watene-Zelezniak faces surgery

The Warriors men remain top of the NRL ladder but winger Dallin Watene-Zelezniak's confirmed for surgery after suffering a collarbone injury in the 45-26 victory over the South Sydney Rabbitohs on Saturday.

Head coach Andrew Webster says the 31-year-old, who has Tongan heritage, played through the pain before scoring a try.

Webster says Watene-Zelezniak was about to come off when he chased a play and scored with his left hand.

“Never scored a try with his left hand ever, pretty brave, extremely brave. I thought it was inspirational what he did last night.”

Central Coast FC finish with silver

In football, Central Coast FC from the Solomon Islands finished runners-up in the 2026 Oceania Football Confederation (OFC) Men’s Champions League after losing 2-0 to Auckland City in Fiji.

Central Coast held the defending champions scoreless in the first half before a red card to Prince Tahunipue made the comeback harder.

Despite falling short, Central Coast player Javin Wae told OFC Media he was “proud” of his team’s campaign.

The victory gave Auckland City their 14th title.
