Conflict dominates our headlines and social feeds. Can we reclaim the art of respectful debate before division tears us further apart?
The world feels tense right now. From the assassination of controversial conservative Charlie Kirk to the relentless struggle in Gaza and the war in Ukraine that shows no sign of slowing down.
Conflict is dominating the headlines and everyone has an opinion. Social media, to me, in the past few days, has felt like a battlefield of its own. Less about dialogue, more about division.
Here's the thing: no matter your politics, beliefs, or background, can we not get back to a place where debate is healthy, and hate is not tolerated? I'll give you an example closer to home.
Last week, an ACT Party candidate's hoarding was shot at multiple times. It shook not only the candidate but the community as well. That to me is aggression and it should have no place in our country, let alone our world.
So let me ask you: can we not take a more pragmatic approach to the challenges facing us? Can we not agree to disagree without destroying each other in the process? I come back to this simple point.
For the sake of people and the planet, let's hold on to this idea: we're all human, we share this planet and if we can start from there, maybe we can start working with each other, instead of against each other.
