This is the transcript from Will's Word on 23rd October:

Now it’s time for Will’s Word…

Wellington City Council is facing a tough time, and the recent appointment of a Crown observer by the Local Government Minister shows just how serious the situation has become.

While the mayor welcomes this move, we need to ask: who is really to blame—the mayor or the councillors?

I'd argue there are some within the council that have been seeking to undermine the Mayor -- and that's the real shame to me.

It's easy to focus on the mayor, who is often the face of the council’s decisions. But we must remember that the councillors are the ones who make the final choices. The council should be working as a team - but there are some who I'd argue are simply nothing more than troublemakers and ego riddled facades.

Listen to Ray Chung, Wellington City Councillor on Pacific Mornings:

So some councillors need to reflect on their roles in this situation. Did they fully understand the impact of halting the airport sale? Were they making decisions based on a clear vision for the future? It’s important for all council members to be accountable for their actions, not just the Mayor.

And look I'm not defending the Mayor either she's had her own mishaps in the role, but perhaps the appointment of a Crown observer should be seen as a chance for the entire council to improve.

This is an opportunity for the council to reassess its approach and focus on making better decisions for the city.

Wellington deserves leadership that not only addresses problems but also plans ahead.
