Fiji is abuzz as thousands of ardent fans from around the world arrive for the George ‘Fiji’ Veikoso Homecoming Concert this weekend.

But it isn't just the visitors who are generating excitement. Local ticket sales have hit record numbers, the organisers say. Tickets range from FJ$79, $99, $350, and $999 VIP (NZ$56, $73, $257, and $733 VIP)

The two-day music festival begins this afternoon and will feature some of the Pacific and international big names.

Lomez Brown, Junior Soqeta, Justin Wellington, Jaro Local, J Boog, and George ‘Fiji’ Veikoso himself will take centre stage on Saturday while Stanley T, Paradise Roots, Billy T, Ratu, InsideOut, Josh Tatofi, and Maoli will bring the curtain down on the show on Sunday.

Tatofi has just completed his Pacific tour of New Zealand, Australia, Tonga, Sāmoa, and American Sāmoa.

Music lovers will be feasting on the international standard festival at King Charles Park in Nadi.

Local star, InsideOut band leader Apakuki Nalawa, also known as Kuki, told journalists the concert is the first of its kind for Fiji.

“They basically shipped in 13 containers of lighting, staging, sound, and all professionals from around the world, even sound engineers from the [United] States.

“It’s a massive production and it is going to be an amazing experience.”

InsideOut is one of a few bands that have been invited to perform, Kuki said.

Security is expected to be tight on both days.

The concert marks Veikoso's return home after 40 years of sharing his love for music with the world.

Since leaving Fiji and settling in Hawaii at age 14, his golden voice and expansive musical repertoire have launched him onto the world stage as a pioneer of the Lost Coast Sound.

His health has also suffered a setback in recent years, with the 54-year-old Fijian legend in a wheelchair during his performance in the United States in July.

He has publicly announced that the Homecoming is more than just a concert.

“It’s a celebration of our roots, our culture, and the music that connects us all. For four decades, I have had the privilege of carrying the spirit of Fiji and the Pacific to audiences across the globe,” Veikoso told the media.

“Now, it is time to bring that journey to full circle, back to where it all began. I am honoured to return home and share with you the music that has been my life’s work, alongside some extraordinary artists who I proudly call family: J Boog, Maoli, and Josh Tatofi."

Veikoso said it was also a celebration of the power of music to unite, inspire, and uplift communities.

“This event is a tribute to our shared heritage, and I can’t wait to experience this unforgettable night with all of you."

Tourism Fiji said Nadi's "thrilled" to host Veikoso's homecoming.

"This event celebrates his incredible talent while also shining a spotlight on Fiji’s vibrant musical scene," a spokesperson said in a statement.

“It’s a fantastic opportunity to boost our local economy, grow a sense of community, and showcase Fiji’s unique offerings to international visitors. Events like this help highlight our rich culture and warm hospitality.”

Fijian artist and aviator Big Wilz said any music-loving fan would "pay that much to watch Pojie, Josh, and Maoli.

"I’m thankful that these brothers are bringing their big kahunas to our shores without big business sponsors but by the sweat of their brows.

“I will pay because I will support Pojie and would like to give him credit for being our flag bearer in the world of music.

"It’s going to be epic. Be there if you can just don’t feel bad if you can’t. See you in Nadi.”

Fiji's MetService says the weather outlook for the weekend is expected to be fine apart from some isolated afternoon or evening showers. But expect cool nights.

Saturday's programme starts at 3pm while Sunday's show begins at 2pm, local time.
