New Reserve Bank Governor Dr Anna Breman becomes the first woman to lead the central bank, tackling inflation alongside a lagging economy.
I wish our new Reserve Bank Governor the best in her new role, because it is arguably one of the toughest gigs in the country.
Dr Anna Breman was announced as Nicola Wills’ pick to lead our central bank yesterday.
She has a wealth of experience under her belt, including her role as the Deputy Governor of Sweden’s central bank.
Breman will be the country’s first-ever female Reserve Bank Governor, which is also pretty awesome.
But I cannot overstate the uphill battle the new central bank boss faces.
It’s no secret that our economy is in a bit of a lull, the cost of living crisis continues to bite, and people continue to leave our shores for better money overseas.
Listen to Will's Word on Facebook below.
I’m sure our Finance Minister Nicola Willis, and indeed the Government, will be hoping Breman can steady the ship while continuing the Reserve Bank’s work in slashing the official cash rate.
It’s worth noting that the central bank purposely engineered a recession in an effort to get on top of the sky-high inflation following the big Covid spend-up.
Breman now has the unenviable task of trying to keep inflation down while providing relief to mortgage holders by not cranking up interest rates again.
It’s gonna be a tough gig, but if her credentials are anything to go by, she’ll be able to do the job.
At least, here’s hoping.
That's Will's Word.
