Myshaan’s debut EP is a love letter to the Pacific

Written during a long-distance engagement, the Māori star fuses his Pacific soul in ‘My Love’.

Rising Pacific-soul sensation Myshaan (Ngāti Kahungunu, Ngāpuhi, Tainui) is laying his heart bare with the release of his debut EP, My Love.

Building on his viral hits like Carry My Heart and a string of chart-topping singles, Myshaan’s new project is a tribute to his wife and a celebration of love in all its forms.

“This EP is about love in all its forms. The infatuation, the butterflies, and the overthinking. It’s about loving someone so deeply that even when they’re not there, they’re with you everywhere,” Myshaan says in a statement.

Tracks such as Missed Your Chance and Paint Them With You, both of which peaked at number three on the Hot 20 Aotearoa Singles, capture the intensity of attraction and the ache of a long-distance relationship.

Written during a “season of distance” after his engagement, My Love blends R&B, reggae, and Pacific soul into an intimate reflection of Myshaan’s journey.

“This is a declaration of my love,” Myshaan adds.

During his honeymoon cruise to Fiji and Vanuatu, Myshaan joined Pacific Days to talk about how faith and purpose shape his music.

“My name comes from the word ‘mission’...my middle name is Lyric, and so kind of my life's purpose is to be a missionary with my lyrics or the way that I sing.”

Since 2023, three of Myshaan’s singles have spent over 115 weeks on the Official Top 20 Aotearoa Singles Chart.

The 23-year-old has also built an incredible digital presence, with 5.7 million TikTok likes and more than 385,000 followers across platforms.

A passionate advocate for Pacific languages, Myshaan has released Missed Your Chance in Tok Pisin, te reo Māori, Vosa Vaka-VIti, ‘Ōlelo Hawai’i, and Chuukese.

Each version is a collaboration with artists who are native speakers including Sean Rii from the Solomon Islands, Son & Water of Aotearoa, Fiji’s Paradise Roots, Hualālai Chung from Hawai’i, and proud Micronesian artist KY MO.

“My music is made for the Pacific,” Myshaan says. “So [for] people that listen, I know that it's every time I craft the lyric, every time I craft the tune, it's catered to those that are in the islands.”

His time performing at the Polynesian Cultural Centre in Hawai’i was pivotal and exposed him to diverse Pacific cultures and enriched his musical depth.

Inspiration, he says, often comes spontaneously, either from an emotional spark or a beat he’s created in the studio.

“Often, it's that feeling that won't leave me alone,” Myshaan says. “But I'd say maybe the other 50 per cent of the time, I've got a beat that I've finished making, I just see where my mind goes, and then I write the lyrics to how the beat makes me feel.”

Fresh from opening for Maoli on the Auckland leg of the Island Vibe tour in January, Myshaan continues to build his reputation across the Pacific music scene. He hopes to meet all his supporters in person one day.

My Love is available on all music streaming platforms.
