Campaign will help 500 Pacific and Māori families buy first homes

Own It campaign is part of move to build thousands of homes in Tāmaki over the next 15-20 years.

A campaign is hoping to help 500 Pacific and Māori families buy their own first homes over the next four years in the Tāmaki region of Auckland.

The campaign is called Own It and to qualify, a family or multi-generational unit need to earn between $85,000 to $205,000 per annum.

Families should also have a connection to the Tāmaki area.

Tāmaki regeneration social transformation and partnership General Manager Afoa Tevita Malolo told Pacific Mornings that the first step is to get families to take a hard look at their finances.

"Whānau come into the programme and I see this all the time and they're like man I can't do that, man I've got too much debt. There's all these barriers.

"People realise that I need to do this and I need to do this and in the past they haven't been able to find or access the services able to help them.

"Through this programme we provide a range of capability and whānau support services to help navigate whānau through that journey."
