Voting in local elections is easier than you think. Every ballot is a chance to shape your neighbourhood and protect democracy at home.
I don't know if you know this, but local elections are on, and whānau it is time to get out there and vote.
I know life is complicated and that many of us feel like our vote doesn't matter. Historically, Pacific voter turnout has been low.
But my plea to you this morning is to get out there and exercise your right. If you hate the state of our roads, vote. If you hate how buses don't show up on time, vote. If you're not happy with the state of your own community, get out and vote.
We are lucky enough to live in a country where we can vote AND where we do have a say in how society goes. Right now, I look at the headlines across the globe and it's abundantly clear that democracy is under threat.
We are lucky enough to live in a nation where democracy is still prized, treasured and adhered to. I'm not here to tell you who to vote for, by any means. Have a read, get out and exercise that right.
I know we live complicated lives: some of us are working long hours, so who's going to look after the kids? The good thing about local elections, though, it is incredibly easy to vote.
In fact, it's much more simple than when you have to go and vote in central government elections. So, back your local candidate, back your community, back your whanau. Get out there and vote.
That's Will's Word.
