Pacific Mornings' host William Terite questions why the government has moved child poverty goals with little explanation.
This is a transcript from Will’s Word on Friday, 26th of July.
In a troubling move, the Government has quietly lowered its goals for reducing child poverty, potentially leaving over 17,000 more children struggling with severe hardship. This change, announced without fanfare through a Gazette notice.
This Act set clear targets for cutting child poverty, aiming to make a real difference in the lives of vulnerable children. But now, the Government has decided to roll back two of the three key goals, making them less ambitious.
They didn’t even bother to make a public announcement or issue a press release about this significant shift.
The original targets were meant to push for real change.
So this is a serious morale failure by the Government, and a total blunder.
