A museum in Paris has received a wave of criticism for the supposed look-a-like wax figure
A museum in Paris is making adjustments after it came under scrutiny for “whitewashing” a wax statue of Samoan superstar Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson.
The wax figure of the Jumanji actor was unveiled on 16 October at the Musée Grévin, which is modelled after London’s Madame Tussauds Wax Museum, but it was missing a major detail - melanin.
Social media users opened fire criticising the art piece with one instagram account The Shade Room labelling the statue as “melanin deficient”.
One person commenting how the figure resembles the cleaning product mascot Mr Clean cosplaying as The Rock, while another user says, "This aint Dwayne, it's Dwight."
Social media response to the off-colour version of Dwayne 'The Rock' Johnson.
Aside from the obviously missing detail, viewers are also commenting on a few more noticeable differences like the iconic smouldering expression replaced with a flat-lining smirk and the head shape being closer to that of the Fast and Furious co-star Vin Diesel.
The star himself saw humour in the attempted clone, resharing a reaction video from comedian James Andre Jefferson Jr. to his socials, writing in his caption that he expected the wax figure to be "roasted".
Jefferson berated the statue saying: "You made The Rock look like he David Beckham. It looks like The Rock ain’t never seen the sun a day in his life."
"We were lucky enough to find someone who physically matched Dwayne Johnson's build and height. That really allowed us to get it right."
Johnson wasn't so convinced and said in his instagram post that his team was going to make contact with the Parisian Museum to make improvements.
"For the record, I’m going to have my team reach out to our friends at Grevin Museum, in Paris France so we can work at “updating” my wax figure here with some important details and improvements - starting with my skin color."
Signing off the post the WWE returnee quipped he'll cheers himself on his next visit to Paris.
Musée Grévin has since removed the wax statue from the gallery and say they are working on improvements.
