New agreement with Broadcasting Corporation Niue delivers comprehensive, multi-platform election coverage for Niuean audiences at home and abroad
The Pacific Media Network (PMN) has formalised a new editorial partnership with Broadcasting Corporation Niue (BCN) to deliver coverage of the 2026 Niue General Election and key community events.
The agreement brings together BCN’s on-island presence with PMN’s digital and broadcast platforms, aiming to ensure Niuean communities in Aotearoa and globally have real-time access to election developments and community milestones.
Under the partnership, PMN deployed Wellington-based Island Time co-host and PMN Niue producer Inangaro Vakaafi to provide coverage, produce news stories, interviews and video content, supported by the PMN newsroom to maintain editorial standards and consistency.
A shared broadcast approach provides opportunities for co-hosted election results coverage, while BCN retains leadership on official result tallying and on-island production. PMN and PMN Niue amplifies coverage across its platforms, including 531pi and digital channels, extending reach to Niueans worldwide.
The agreement outlines a framework for ongoing collaboration, including shared content, aligned editorial standards and a long-term memorandum of understanding between the two organisations.
PMN Chief Executive Don Mann says the partnership reflects the organisation’s commitment to strengthening Pacific-led journalism and ensuring communities remain connected to key democratic moments.
“This partnership is about combining local expertise with our ability to reach Pacific audiences wherever they are,” he says.
“It ensures Niuean communities, both on the island and across the diaspora, have access to trusted, timely coverage of an important national event, while also building a foundation for longer-term collaboration.”
The agreement also includes logistical support from PMN, covering travel costs and enabling a streamlined deployment model designed to minimise impact on BCN’s resources.
Both organisations have signalled their intention to build on the partnership beyond the 2026 election, with discussions underway to formalise a long-term working relationship.
