PMN Chief Executive Don Mann honoured with New Zealand leadership award
Mann says recognition is a collective achievement and affirms PMN’s role in strengthening Pacific voices and commitment to visibility and authenticity.
Pacific Media Network (PMN) Chief Executive Don Mann has been recognised at the 2025 New Zealand Leadership Awards, receiving the New Zealand Pasifika Leadership Award for his outstanding contribution to Pacific leadership and community advancement.
The Award celebrates leaders who demonstrate authenticity, cultural connection, and values-driven leadership. Now in its second year, the programme is organised by Robert Walters in partnership with the Graeme Dingle Foundation, with category support from TupuToa.
Mann shared the honour with Dagmar Vaikalafi Dyck, Assistant Pro Vice-Chancellor Pacific at Auckland University of Technology (AUT). Masterton District Council’s Maseina Koneferenisi was also recognised as a finalist.
Speaking after the event, Mann says the Award represents a collective achievement for Pacific Media Network and the communities it serves.
“It’s due recognition for everyone who has been a part of PMN’s journey over the past 30 years, and for Pacific people who step into leadership spaces across different sectors. I was fortunate to stand alongside Dagmar and Maseina last night. This award is about all of us.”
Mann emphasised PMN’s identity as “by Pacific, for Pacific,” highlighting its role in shaping authentic Pacific representation within New Zealand’s media landscape.
He also reflected on the importance of humility, courage, and gratitude in leadership, referencing a Tongan proverb: Ko e koloa ‘a Tonga ko e fakamālō – “the expression of gratitude is the treasure of Tonga.”
“Gratitude requires action and courage,” Mann said. “It’s not about being passive or settling for the status quo. True leadership means breaking the mould and creating pathways for others to follow.”
The New Zealand Leadership Awards bring together leaders across corporate, community, education, and public service sectors, recognising those who are driving excellence, growth, and innovation through values-led leadership.
