Setting the standard: Niu FM leads NZ in Local Music Airplay for fourth consecutive year.
Niu FM has once again been recognised by NZ On Air for their commitment to broadcasting local music.
The Pacific youth station achieved an impressive 50.24% local music airplay in 2024 - the highest among all commercial radio stations in Aotearoa.
“With so many global platforms out there shaping what people watch and listen to, supporting our Pacific artists has never been greater. As long as our people are making music, Niu FM will be playing it,” says Niu FM Programme Director Tarsh Poching-Ieremia.“We acknowledge our previous PD Lui Vilisoni and the huge part he played in this amazing achievement.”
This is the fourth year in a row Pacific Media Network’s youth station has won the award.
A trophy was formally presented at the NZ On Air Music Showcase in Auckland by the Hon. Paul Goldsmith, Minister for Arts, Culture and Heritage. The event also featured live performances by rising Kiwi acts A.R.T, Coast Arcade, NO CIGAR, and Ruby Coley.
This recognition underscores Niu FM's ongoing dedication to uplifting Pacific voices, and our commitment to supporting local artists whose stories and sounds shape the identity of Aotearoa.
