Will's Word: Nicola Willis sets inclusive example that should be applauded

Pacific Mornings host William Terite gives his taken on the recent stoush between Brian Tamaki and Finance minister Nicola Willis.

This is a transcript from Will’s Word on Thursday, 27th of June.

In a recent social media clash senior National MP Nicola Willis handled criticism from Brian Tamaki of Destiny Church with wit and poise.

Tamaki questioned Willis for following a drag king named Willy SmacknTush, suggesting it wasn't suitable for a Minister of Finance. Willis responded cleverly, suggesting Tamaki try out lipstick and boas himself.

Willis deserves credit for defending personal freedom and supporting diversity. Her backing of Willy SmacknTush, known for family-friendly events, shows her positive stance on inclusivity. Tamaki's comments, in contrast, seem narrow-minded and disrespectful of different lifestyles.

In today's world, embracing diversity and respecting personal choices are crucial. Willis' response not only shut down Tamaki's criticism but also showed support for LGBTQ+ rights in New Zealand.

Let's praise leaders like Nicola Willis who promote tolerance and reject divisive rhetoric like Brian Tamaki's. In a society striving for equality and acceptance, there's no place for intolerance.
