Wind and rain weren't enough to deter people from enjoying Auckland’s biggest street food festival
Hundreds braved wind and rain to try a cornucopia of Pacific, African, Asian, European and Māori culinary delights at the Ōtāhuhu Food Festival.
Despite the inclement weather, the event saw over 100 vendors selling their wares down Great South Road, making it one of largest annual street food markets on the city’s calendar. Punters were spoilt for choice, with rows of small, family-run businesses selling alongside larger, more established catering companies, serving up a range of cuisine from Hawaiian BBQ, Cook Island donuts, watermelon otai, Indonesian beef rendang, hangi, fried bread, Filipino beef stew, seafood chowder and so much more.
Alongside the smorgasbord of scrumptious fare, some of New Zealand’s best musical talent were also on the menu including Che Fu, Sammy J, Jordyn With A Why and Rei who kept the rain-sodden crowds entertained throughout the day.
And with an election less than two weeks away, politicians from a range of parties, including Vision NZ, the Greens and Labour, as well as representatives from the Electoral Commission were on hand, reminding people to make sure they have their say by 14 October.
