Swiss joined PMN Tonga to talk about his spin on a popular song about mothers.
A Tongan music artist is back with a new song for Mother’s Day, inspired by what he calls a “classic”.
The music artist Swiss released his own rendition of Prince Tui Teka's original song Mum.
Watch the song below:
Swiss felt he resonated with the song, and wanted to do something special for Mother’s Day this weekend.
“It’s a classic. It’s one of those ones where you sort of don’t know whether you touch the song, because it’s such a big song as well.
“But this song means just as much to me as it probably was when Prince Tui Teka was writing it.”
The song Mum was released in November of 2001, the same year Swiss had left Australia where his mother and family had lived.
“When I first heard the song I had just moved to New Zealand, I left Mum and the rest of my family back in Australia. I related to it in so many ways, especially with Prince Tui Teka being a musician and traveling the world.
“There’s nothing like a mother’s love. Because I related to it in so many ways, I felt that I had to put my spin on it. And I hope I’ve done it justice, and I’m glad to put my spin on it and express my love for my Mum.”
Swiss speaks of his mother, saying her love was “out of this world”.
“Oh Mum, she’s out of this world. When you think of unconditional love, that’s exactly what Mum is. And that’s what most mothers are.
“She raised me alongside my six siblings, seven of us all together six boys and one girl, she did one hell of a job!
“She means the world to me and I wish I can express the way I feel about her more often and in person. So I thought it would be an awesome opportunity to not only celebrate her but make a song about all mothers as well.”
