The Pasifika Medical Association Group and New Zealand Rugby League are collaborating to provide free healthcare and sporting pathways.
The Pasifika Medical Association Group (PMAG) and New Zealand Rugby League (NZRL) have joined forces to “enhance the wellbeing and opportunities of Pacific families through sport”.
The newly signed agreement aims to improve the lives of Pacific players, their families, and their communities.
It will include the work of primary healthcare services, mental health support, Whānau Ora services, and sports groups.
Debbie Sorensen, PMAG's Chief Executive Officer, said the Memorandum of Understanding was an important milestone.
“Sport has the ability to inspire, connect, and transform lives. By working collaboratively with NZRL, we are amplifying opportunities for Pacific families to thrive both on and off the field.”
NZRL Chief Executive Greg Peters agreed.
“NZRL is committed to community wellbeing with our More Than a Game philosophy underpinning everything we do as an organisation," he said..

“Working with PMAG on these initiatives is another positive step forward in being able to help all of those involved in our sport in ways that matter most to them.”
PMAG has a longstanding history of support for the Pacific community, serving almost 80,000 families since 2014, and NZRL has a sporting legacy of more than 100 years.
While enrolments are free, the partnership will first focus on Auckland and Christchurch.
NZRL-referred enrolments are available from 6 January 2025.
