Samoa's Head of State sets a date for parliament to meet

Samoa's Head of State has finally set a date for parliament to meet.

Tuimalealiifano Va'aleto'a Sualauvo II declared the official opening of parliament will take place Monday 24th May.

However, when parliament convenes, the addition female MP Ali'imalemanu Alofa Tuuau will not sit in, with the Court of Appeal rejecting her motion to stay.

The decision from the Court of Appeal, delivered at midday on Friday, places Faatuatua i le Atua Samoa ua Tasi (F.A.S.T.) with a one seat majority in Parliament, leading 26 to 25. ​

Local media report, the incumbent government party, the Human Rights Protection Party (H.R.P.P.), are now in the minority and unable to defend their 40 years in Government. ​
